The General Manager's Address

China is a country with abundant hydropower resources, while Sichuan Province ranks in the first place. Ertan Hydropower Development Company, Ltd. (EHDC) is committed to supplying clean and renewable energy in support of the economic and social development of Sichuan-Chongqing region and the country’s eastern area by development of the hydropower resources on the Yalong River in Sichuan.

In the early 1990s, we started with the 3,300MW Ertan Hydroelectric Project, the first hydro project built on the Yalong and China’s largest one built in the 20th century. As a project partly financed by the World Bank and constructed by joint ventures sponsored by international contractors, Ertan applied international standards in many areas, from project management to construction quality, and from management of environmental impacts to rehabilitation of resettled residents. Such a high starting point has pre-determined a higher goal for the company.

Rapid economic growth and social advancement have created more pressing demand on energy. After successful completion of Ertan, EHDC continued its tasks of building the other hydro schemes on the Yalong River and was fortunate enough to be authorized by the Central Government to be fully responsible for hydro-energy development of the entire river. Our target is to complete all the planned 21 cascade projects by 2025, building the company’s total generation capacity up to 30GW and bringing the company into the line of world-recognized hydropower producers.

We fully recognize we have a long way to go to fulfill our goal. During the development process, we will stick to the disciplines of sustainable development, properly combine hydropower development with environment protection, and build the Yalong valley into a picturesque and economically and socially developed area.
