A Four-stage Strategy has been formulated for development of the hydropower resources of the Yalong River, which includes:

Stage 1: Before 2000, achieving an installed capacity of 3,300MW by completion of Ertan Hydropower Station.

Stage 2: Before 2015, building the power projects of Jinping, Guandi and Tongzilin to complete the cascade development of the lower reach of the river. The company will have a generation capacity of 14,700MW, starting to benefit from asset scale and mutual compensation, and will become a significant independent power producer (IPP) in the regional power grid, shaping an initial setup for modern management of cascading power stations.

Stage 3: Before 2020, further developing the hydro resources by constructing 3 to 4 major projects, including Lianghekou Power Station, in the middle reach of the river. By then the company will increase its generation capacity by 8,000MW, bringing its total capacity up to 23,000MW, and will step into the line of the world’s first class IPPs.

Stage 4: Before 2025, finishing the remaining projects to complete the full valley development, raising the company’s generation capacity to approx. 30,000MW.
